Vyom's 4th Grade (9-10 yr) achievements

Vyom continues to grow as a wonderful person. He achieved many milestones in the 2016-2017 year.
His passion for winning and putting in the best on whatever he does makes us proud. He is a fast learner and continues to be a good listener of coaches. He continues to be a strict follower of rules.

Achievements:

• Attended multiple Warrior camps and in some of them got the MVP award along with many other prizes. 
• Fastest swimmer in all individual events
• Selection in school Basketball team and in starting line up - Team won ALL 7 games against noted schools like Sacred Heart, Pinewood, Nueva, Woodside etc..
• In Track and Field, he won the 800m, 400m as 1st place and 200m as 2nd place. 
• Became #1 USA player in 10U category with FIDE rating 1979.
• Participated in local Santa Clara Tennis tournaments and came 2nd. 
• Represented USA in Pan American Costa Rica coming 6th and World Cadet Chess Championship in Brazil coming 14th 
• 10U team went for Water Polo Junior Olympics where Vyom did great and his team came 17th out of 28 teams
• Vyom also won many chess events in Bay Area
• Vyom took the John Hopkins test for 1st time and did excellent in Math scoring 99%
• Vyom got his Instagram account #vyomvidy where all his chess updates are posted

We had some downsides as well, when Vyom got 6 stitches close to his eyebrows while playing basketball during recess. This injury just healed and was followed by another incident in school where he fractured his collar bone. It was tough 3 weeks where he had to skip all sports but during this time, he spend a lot of time on chess. 

Vyom is excited to be now starting 5th Grade at Harker School!

Vyom's achievements in Sept 2015

We are very proud of Vyom as he again reached top 100 rating under 8 in US for Chess. His current rating 1292.

Vyom also won the 1st place in Tennis for Under10 Orange Ball Tournament in Portola Valley. He won all his 5 singles games. It was a delight to watch him play and enjoy!!

Vyom's busy life..

Vyom's growing faster than we had imagined :-). He is a 2nd grader now. We were just looking at some of his 3 year pictures and admired them.

He has quite a busy life considering he is just 7 year old.. He is in school from 8:15am to almost 5pm. Then on Monday's he has soccer, Tuesday Chess from 6:30pm to 8pm, Wednesday Swim lessons from 7pm to 7:45pm (Green level), Thursday - take it easy now, Friday not much.. Then comes the busy weekend with Saturday Soccer, Piano, Tennis. Sunday he has dance, Tennis Private lesson. The amazing part is that he enjoys all of it. He takes interest in what he does.

2015 Summer Time

Today, it's Saturday August 15th, and I'm sitting in Fresno Double Tree hotel while Vyom is playing his Chess Tournament.  We woke up at 7:30am and drove to Fresno for his game that started at 11am.

Vyom has had an exciting and busy summer. He had many achievements this summer..

1. Started playing Water Polo, it was a new sport that he picked up and is liking it.
2. Started playing Tennis tournaments (played a couple of Orange and Green ball tournaments)
3. Moved to pre-comp Swimming level
4. Started playing Ping Pong, as we got the table in June
5. Developed interest in playing Piano (we did get a piano at home and now Vyom's teacher comes home to teach them)
6. Both Vyom/Omya went for 4 week Harker summer camp together. They had a blast.

It's nice to see how he is growing up and picking up new things. Vyom still loves playing chess and has been teaching Omya also. His current rating is 1223.

Again, this summer we were able to spend good quality time with both Vyom and Omya.
They were lucky to have both grandparents visit them and spend time with them.  We also had Arunav stay with us for this summer and Vyom/Arunav enjoyed the time playing TT and watching soccer.

We also learned a new game that can be played in family settings (mostly in the car) called Contact.

Yom finally picked up biking as well. This summer Vyom watched the movie "Inside Out"

Vyom will start Harker 3rd grade this August 26th. Omya will started KDG, so the excitement is great..

He is growing fast and becoming a big boy! He loves his time with Noodles as well..

Vyom starts 2nd Grade in Harker

Vyom started 2nd Grade in Harker School on August 25th 2014. He has been a perfect ideal kid and we could not have asked for better.

Some noteworthy achievements that Vyom has accomplished are:

Vyom Vidyarthi – #94, rated 1052 (August 2014 top 100 chess players in USA in age category 7 and under) - We learned about this on Patrika's B'day, so obviously it made her day!!!

Did awesome in ERB Testing for 1st Grade with scoring mostly 100% in Math and Language arts..

His passion for playing Chess continues and is motivated to do better. He is learning Chess from Studygascar and also from Bay Area Chess as part of after school program.

Vyom is also learning Tennis for past 3 months with a new coach Ashvin Soin.  He takes both private and group lessons.

Vyom also is enjoying swim lessons in Saratoga Star Aquatics. He is in Green level and has learned Freestyle, Butterfly, breast stroke and back stroke. 

This past summer, he had a good time with both grandparents. He also read 36+ books.  He attended the Harker summer camp for 1st session and also took daily swim lessons. He enjoyed watched the soccer world cup and supporting USA first and then Argentina. He was a bit sad on Argentina loosing the finals against Germany. We did get in the Messi shirt/short from Omya's side for Rakhi. His love for cricket still exists. He loves to play in the backyard.

Another achievement that Vyom has was to move to P3 level in Language arts at Harker at end of 1st Grade. 

Vyom's 2nd grade teachers are Ms. Mehta for Home room and Language Arts, Ms. Yarborough for Maths.

Vyom's 1st grade teachers were Ms. Proctor for Homeroom and Math and Ms Kusuma for Language arts.

Vyom and Omya get along very well. Vyom is still a role model for Omya. 

Another thing worth mentioning is that we had a puppy dog addition to our family "Labradoodle" named Noodles. We got him in April and Noodles birthday is on Jan 4th. Vyom and Omya love playing and spending the time with Noodles. 

Vyom's love for trying different cuisines and eating healthy food continues. His love for Panda Express, Chipotle and some Indian Restaurants still exists.

Vyom also attended the Pan spelling bee contest held on August 30th Saturday. He was able to clear the 1st round written, but misspelled "source as sorce" " evaporate as evaprorate". He did spell "dangerous" correctly.. It was a fun event and he enjoyed it.

Vyom did pick up a decent amount of Hindi again with grandparents around. We did move to a new house in Nov 2013 and this place is walking distance to Vyom's school. 

Vyom walked to school for Harker summer camp and it was a great feeling. Somedays all 4 of us used to walk to drop Vyom. Since Omya was not doing the summer camp she was excited to go and meet Ms. Kelly.

Vyom also has this interesting habit of saving from time to time. He would make comments how we can save more.. this piece of story to come in next blog..

Overall, we are proud of both Omya and Vyom!! You both rock :-)

Vyom would be turning 3 next month

It's been a long time since i wrote about Vyom. He has been a lot of fun and we have been enjoying his questioning on everything. We love it when he says "Whyyy" on everything. On October 1st, 2009, we feel Vyom was potty trained, since then he has not wore a diaper. Although it has been quite interesting since then. He does very well during the day time but do have accidents during night which he feels embaraced.

He has been very excited about his baby sister. We came to know about Vyom's sibling on June 16th, 2009. It was another dream come true. On Oct 2nd, we learned that it was a girl and our happiness on a complete family was just out of bounds.
Before we learned about her, that week, my promotion happened, Gilroy home got rented out and so it was true that "mother goddess" is coming to our life. Her due date is Feb 20th, 2010.

Vyom has been very excited about it and is ready to share everything with her. He has made plans were she is going to sleep and what all Vyom is going to do for her, example, change diaper, give her a bath, make her wear clothers, tell her a story etc.

Vyom had already learned her alphabets and numbers till 20 a couple of months agao. Now he has started recognizing them as well. He has set his target that before he turns 3 on Jan 31st, he would be able to recognize all of them.

During the last couple of months, Meha had a baby girl named "Anika" and Anuprita had a baby girl named "Ananya" so it has been quite fun to see small kids.

Vyom also visited San Diego on Southwest airlines and he remembers that it was orange and purple flight. We stayed in Sangi Didi's place and visited Legoland, Seaworld and Meha's Baby shower.

In school, Vyom is almost ready to transition to a new class (Preschool). We are just waiting for openings in the new class. He has some close dear friends with whom he loves to play, Lozo, Anika, Kylie, Ryon and Austin. Mei was another one but she transitioned to another class.

Vyom still loves to sleep with Mommy and he is concerned that Mommy would be staying in the hospital for 2 days..

Overall it is a lot of fun to see him grow and do new activities everyday. His latest excitement is going to the Santa Clara Library from where he got a couple of DVD's and 10 books for stories. His love for going to the restaurant is still the same.

Vyom's recent activities

It's been sometime since I wrote about Vyom. The reason being that Vyom has become more fun and hence we love to spend most of our time with him. He is running all over the place. Loves to climb stairs and is now familiar with all the rooms. He know where we sleep and how to turn on the tap when he wants to take a shower.

We took him to the swimming pool which he absolutely loved it. It was a good time since Vyom's mommy also got a chance to remember her old stokes. He enjoys his time in the daycare and has transitioned to Toddler class on April 21st. He is now very familiar with his new teachers. Vyom now knows to open the drawers and take out stuff that is of interest to him. He makes sure that the drawers are closed after he has taken the stuff out.

Vyom will be 1 tomorrow

Wow.. Vyom will be 1 tomorrow. Time flies by. Well this month he achieved a great milestone. On Jan 10th, 2008 he took his first couple of steps and by Jan 26th he was comfortably walking :-). He seems to be enjoying the fact that he can walk and his hands are now free.

Vyom did celebrate Tanu didi and Satvik's b'day in the month of January. His tastes buds now want to explore many more new dishes. He still loves banana; apple sauce, mommy made idli's and dokhla. He seemed to like Kiwi and oranges as well.

We will be celebrating his 1st B'day on Feb 2nd in Sitara India Cuisine.

Vyom is 11 months old

It's been quite sometime since I wrote about Vyom. Past couple of months has been quite busy for us. We moved from Gilroy to Santa Clara in Sept mid (19th) and then rented our old home in Gilroy. In October Vyom celebrated his first Halloween in which he wore his Puppy dress. He enjoyed the party in Gilroy @ Oak Commons community meeting all his friends; Logan, Gia, Mihir, Amy and others..On the day of Halloween we picked Vyom from daycare a little early and then in the evening went around the neighborhood collecting Candies :-) Overall it was a fun filled Halloween for us and for Vyom. Ohh yes, Vyom started stading up quite comfortable holding our center table and enjoys that!

In early November, we went to India so that Vyom can meet other family memebers and enjoy some time with grandparents. First we stopped at Hong Kong where we met Naveen/Bhart/Abinav and visited a couple of places. We had a nice 1 day stop over at their place and ate good food. We then reached Delhi on Nov 6th @ 2am and then around 4am took a cab to reach Delhi railway station where we took Shatabi for Lucknow. Vyom met all the family memebers and one general comment he got his that "Vyom needs to gain some weight" :-)

In an unfortunate circumstance vyom lost his Neeti bua on the day of Diwali....

He juggled between Dadi and Nani house and entertained everyone with his smile. He had a blast with all the kids around (cheeku, akshat, poison, tita kati, mahi, khushi and mahek). He adjust quite well to the Indian climate and the environment and kept his grandparents very busy :-) Vyom had his mundan in a temple and a party at Nana Nani's place. His first flight experience was good and he seemed to have enjoyed it.

In Decemeber Vyom started going 5 days to daycare and we noticed that he became a complete extrovert; as he adjusted to the daycare environment very comfortable.

Vyom's Massi with Family also moved to California so he has fun with Tani didi. We did set up a Chritmas tree for the first time as it was his first christmas and he did enjoy it :-) Vyom has a big toy room where he loves to spend time and explore all his toys.

And before I forget to mention; Vyom is very talkitive, he would love to say something that is beyond our understanding :-)

He seems to be very close to walking and it should happen anytime. His sixth teeth is also coming. Vyom's Nana Nani also came fot 6months to California. Vyom enjoyed his 10 days vacation with us and what he did the most is "sleeping".

His daycare also changed fromm Kindercare to CCLC from January 1st week and he seemed to have adjusted very well. His new teachers are Miss Angel and Mis Marcia.

He loves eating by himself and would not like someone feeding him. I have so many things to write ....every day he does something new which keeps us entertained..
We have entered in 2008 and Vyom's birth year has passed and soon he will be an year old. Time flies by so fast...as it was just yesterday that Vyom was born and we help him in our arms .....

Vyom turned 6months

On July 31st, Vyom celebrated in half yearly B'day. We can't beleive that he is now 6months old. It has been a wonderful experience seeing him grow everyday and do new activities. His new development is to to try to get everything that attacts him.

On his 6montn B;day, we first wished him early morning (midnight as well) and then gave him a shower. We then took him for his 6 monthly doc appt. He is now 16.5 lbs and 26inches tall. Doctor K Bhatia suggested to start giving him solids. Then he got 4 shots, which he took quite bravely. Just cried for two minutes then was happy.

We came home and did Puja, Mommy made Panjiri and Charnamitra which we made Vyom taste after the pooja. We then cut the cake and enjoyed the rest of the day with him.

Vyom's massi also visited him for an interview at Palm. She enjoyed her short stay with Vyom. Massi, Masarji, Tanu didi and Satvik are moving to Bay area close to Vyom in a few month time frame. We also assembled Vyom's high chair gifted to him by Massi and gave him his first solids (Rice cereal) and water in silverware.

Dada Dadi also emailed Vyom and wished him on his 6month b'day. They went to temple as well for Vyom's well being..

Vyom turns 5 & 1/2 months

Vyom's 5th month has been quite interesting. He started to sit more comfortably and is reaching out for toys. He loves taking everything to his month. He has certianely become more active and responsive. He has started reaching out for Mom and Dad. It was 1 week back in day care that he reached out for Mommmy. This was one of the best moments for mommy. He gives a big smile when we go to either meet him or pick him up from day care.

He is still excercising his vocal cord very well. We feel his singing qualities would be excellent. We are planning to move closer to work and Vyom's daycare hence we put out home on market for sale ($639K). Since he has started sitting and exploring more things we got him more toys like Piano and other muscial instruments.

Today Vyom's Nana Nani also left from India from Vyom's Massi's place. His new pictures are posted on the same location...

Vyom is 5 months old

Vyom turned 5 months. He starting liking his day care now. He sleeps and feeds well in day care. Vyom helped his parents search for the new place in Santa Clara area.

Vyom is becoming naughtier day by day. He wants to be awake till late and takes time to go to bed. Loves to play all sort of funny games with Mommy and Daddy. His dada dadi are missing him a lot and hence thay try to seem him every day on webcam.

Vyom has also started sitting for a few seconds on his own. He can turn both sides and come back to original position. His voice is becoming louder day by day. One unique thing is that he sings himself a lullaby before going to sleep. It is quite interesting and fun filled to see him go thru all these stages.

Vyom started going to daycare

Vyom turned 4 and a half months today. His dada daddi had to leave urgently on Sunday June 10th due to medical conditions. Vyom had a wonderful time with them for the past few months. He is certainly missing them. He celebrated his Dad's B'day on June 10th and gave a beautiful rose in the morning.

Wednesday Jun 13th was his first day in KinderCare daycare (at the itersection of Lawerence and Arques). It was one of the best that we could find close to our work area. He will be going only 3 days a week (MWF) for a month or so and then probably for the full week. He reached @ 10:15am in the morning and during lunch his mommy went to visit him. Then we picked him up around 4:30pm in thee evening. It was not the best of his days as he cried much more than normal. But today on his second day he seems to be doing little better. It will take some time for him and us to adjust to this new routine. He is currently under the supervision of three teaches: Elvira, Celia and Leela. It is quite hard for us to leave him in daycare but we know that it will help him in overall development and growth.

These days we are putting Vyom in crib more often so that he gets used to it and does well in daycare. Vyom also got a new ExcerSaucer which he loves it and plays a lot.

Vyom is 4 months old

Vyom completed his 4 months today. Today in the morning he went with us for his 4th month checkup where he was given 4 shots. He cried for a few minutes and then became completely normal. Patrika stayed home with him so as to keep a check for fever etc.

He now lifts his head and legs both at the same time, probably trying to turn sideways.
Vyom enjoyed his first long drive to San Diego to meet Sangi Bua, Phufaji, Amrit Bhaiya , Arunav Bhaiya and Ambika didi. He was simply amazing during the whole journey to and fro, just got up when it was required otherwise kept sleeping/playing.

Vyom's Dad and Mom

Vyom 3 and 1/2 months old

Vyom wished his Mom a very happy FIRST mother's day on May 13th, 2007. He gave Mommy a rose in the morning and then gold earings. He was able to hold the balloon and presented it to Mommy. I was able to capture all these moments and will be in his photo album. Overall we had a great time. I wished my Mom by presenting her a diamond watch.

Vyom now sleeps less compared to earlier days. He spends most of the time playing and making interesting sounds. He still enoys massage and bath time. We are quite confindent that he will start speaking very soon. We ordered his new orbitz baby Toddler seat on Mothers day and it should arrive in a few weeks. We took a rough measurement of his height and it looked like he is already about 26'' which is quite good for his age. In this month another new thing he learned is to make a wet razzling sound.

Also everyday in the evening Vyom enjoys a walk in my arms in our backyard, where we have strawberries, methi, hara dhaniya, tomatoes, bhindi, beans and beautiful rose plants.

Vyom 3 months old

Time flies by so fast, it just seems like yesterday when Vyom was born and now he is 3 months old. He has learned a lot of new things and it is all because of his inquisitive nature. He raises his head quite high during tummy time. He is quite scoial and loves to smile and interact with folks.

Vyom attended another Birthday party this month. This was the 3rd B'day paty which Vyom attended. Earlier ones were (Garvit/Gaurika & Esha's). It was Kalika's 3rd b'day in bombay Garden, Santa Clara, CA. He got a chance to meet Sagar/Nipa's daughter Aranya and Sanjay Kalpana's daughter Esha. He was awake most of the time in the party and enjoyed with everyone. It was April 28th and final between Australia vs Srilanka which Australians won in style.

Vyom also practices singing the whole day. Seems like he is working hard clearing his vocal cord.

Vyom 2 1/2 months old

On 15th April 2007, Vyom will be 2 1/2 months old. We applied for his US passport 2 weeks back as Vyom will be visiting India with us in November 2007 to attend Nandu Chacha's marriage.

These days he loves talking to all of us and is full of smiles all the time. He gets his massage in the morning and takes a bath in the evening before going to bed.

He has learned to sleep in his crib and bassinet. New development which we noticed quite recently is that he sleeps on his own after playing in the crib. We did his photo session today and Patrika will be putting the new photos on the web tomorrow (April 15th, 2007) in the same place.

Vyom is 2 months old

Today March 31st 2007, Vyom is now 2 month old. Time seems to be flying by. Today Vyom attended Esha's (Sanjay & Kalpana's daughter) 1st Birthday party. He had a wonderful time and really enjoyed loud music and interacted with many of our friends.

He then had his 2nd month photo session and the pictures are now uploaded on the web (same location). His vocabulary seems to be improving everyday and makes all kind of funny noises :-)

Vyom in his 7th week

Vyom is now in his 7th week. He stays with his Grandma and Grandpa from Noon to 6pm while we are gone for work. He sleeps, plays, talks with them during that time.

As soon as we are back, he is all set to go to Mom for his feeding and spends a good amount of time. In the evening after his massage & bath time by Mommy-Daddy he goes for a walk. During that time he sleeps which lasts for 4-5 hours before he again becomes hungry and wakes up Mommy :-)

He now turns his face toward a sound and seems to laugh on eye contact. His 6th week pictures are in the same location on the web.
